Coaching
Hi, Dan Cook here - thanks for your interest in run coaching! I am a certified UESCA Ultrarunning Coach. Here's a bit about me and my coaching philosophy: I'm an experienced ultra trail runner based in Colorado, regularly found exploring the stunning trails around Boulder. I takes a holistic, long-view approach to running: training not only for race day, but ultimately for a strong, healthy, and sustainable lifestyle. With a deep belief in the power of self-care, I encourage athletes to prioritize quality sleep, clean nutrition, rest and recovery, and a positive & disciplined mindset as essential pieces of the training puzzle. As a strong advocate for training to your own abilities, I encourage sticking to and honoring one's process vs. getting pulled into “running someone else’s race.” While podium finishes and big metrics are sometimes fun, I believe success is personal and is really centered around kindness, growth, fulfillment, and feeling strong and whole - on and off the trail. With emphasis that the body is an intricate and quite amazing system of systems, I believe in the importance of tending to the wide array of health and performance within our lives. That includes strength work, mobility, cross-training with tools like biking and weight lifting, and perhaps most importantly: mental wellness & durability. My coaching is rooted in integrity, longevity, and genuine care for the well-being of the athletes I work with. I teach people beyond running, especially in areas like learning to and acting on giving oneself (and others) grace, which ultimately translates to being kinder to yourself. I bring a down-to-earth style to my coaching - serious about the work as well as the joy of movement and the healing power of nature. To me, running creates opportunities to connect more with your body, the outdoors, and to become your best self. I believe athletic pursuits should be fun, too!
